Feeling bored today?  Why not make a remix of a Twin Sister track.  All of our music is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial license, so you can use these stems for whatever you want, as long as you're not charging money.  Personally, I've always wanted to hear Ghostface, GZA, Raekwon and the rest of the Killa Beez over our music. We'll be posting the stems from the rest of Color Your Life over the next couple of weeks.

Kind Spirit

George Kalivas of Kind Spirit.

George Kalivas has been a good friend of ours for years. I actually grew up in the same town as him and had a lot of the same friends before I ever got to know him well.  He plays bass guitar for another good friend or ours, Lost Boy but also just released a free digital EP entitled "Nectar" under the guise, Kind Spirit.  Visit his blog here and get the "Nectar" EP along with a ton of his amazing artwork.

We're going on tour again, this time as support for the fantastic Bear in Heaven.  This tour is especially exciting for us, as none of us have ever been west of the Mississipi River, well except for that lovely night we spent across the river in Iowa after Daytrotter.  Can't wait to see the West Coast.

Orientalism: A Mix of Indian Film Music

My father, an emigrant who left India in 1991, collected all of these songs over the years, digitizing old tapes, ripping CD's from midwestern libraries, and spending long nights reclaiming bits and pieces of a past life via a 28.8 kbps modem connection. Some of them are really bad quality rips, but I guess that emphasizes the distance these songs have had to travel to make it here.

The songs themselves are mostly taken from the 70s, a heady time for Bollywood films and their music.  Growing up in a house where I only really heard this music through the conduit of late night tipsy singalongs, I've had minimal exposure to the recordings themselves.  Listening to them again now, what's clear is how amazingly weird some of the sounds are.  Moog synthesizers, surf rock guitars, big band inspired horns, and a distinctly Indian rhythm section and sense of melody make for some really interesting experiments.  The giant who stands over most of this is RD Burman, as he had a hand in writing, producing, and performing in almost every song on the mix.  So, if this music is new to you, and you like what you hear, he is the best place to start.  The tracklist is below:
